Watch out plants grow hydroponically on our Ustream channel in our greenhouse at P.S. 28 in Jersey City. We are conducting an experiment to see if plants grow better hydroponically in our green house in fresh water, reservoir water or out in nature on our floating solar aerator/garden. Please check us out and your comments are welcome.

Dedicated students from Project Reservoir decided in response to the unprepared and inadequate response to Hurricane Sandy that they would start working on a way to be prepared for another inundation to our underground infrastructure. The Tunnel Saver team (www.tunnelsavers.com) has dedicated their efforts to designing a way to more efficiently protect tunnels with their own barrier system, designed a simple to follow emergency guide in five languages that targets the citizens of Jersey City, and they have started a local campaign to Just-Put-A-Lid-On-It check out some of our photos of trash cans without lids https://plus.google.com/photos/110116826964312824781/albums/5943161229720488049?authkey=CLyRkLfugrmKRA  They are using the http://seeclickfix.com/jersey-city website to raise awareness about a problem of epidemic proportions regarding a lack of garbage can lids on cans in Jersey City and how that garbage makes it way into the storm drain system.

PSA on controlling mosquitoes in your neighborhood and parks on Youtube (put a Hole-In-It) http://youtu.be/d7xZ9_h1M1k
This summer project reservoir found a trash can at the reservoir full of rain water, trash, and mosquitoe larvae. Something had to be done. We created a system to catch mosquito larvae and feed them to our fathead minnows, but we realize that there are trash cans everywhere that collect rain water and problably are not emptied of trash and water every week (mosquito eggs hatch in about 5 days in warm weather). Thus was born our initiative to "Put a Hole-In-It" campaign.

What you have to do is simply put a 1/4 inch or 1.5 cm hole in the bottom of your trash can to promote draining. That is it! You have a trash can that promotes good health because it doesn't catch rain water that can help breed mosquitoes.

Our project has reached out to the local government, state government, and federal government to help expand our efforts to put a hole-in-it initiative.

Check this video to see the need based on a trash can we found this summer. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yjJFX_J22vc&feature=share&list=UUzJzMDKUpFzhspfmXeqfxzg
